The automotive industry is in the midst of a rapid innovation cycle fueled by a variety of disruptive factors, including the arrival of autonomous cars, new technologies, ESG Initiatives, automated factories, and more. Of these rapid shifts, one of the most significant has been the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), with sales forecasted to increase by 21% in 2024 alone, reaching an estimated global market worth of $623.3 B worldwide.
With more people switching to electric every year, charging infrastructure will become increasingly essential in public spaces, workplaces, and homes, opening up new value spaces within that ecosystem.
Telenet spotted this opportunity, entering the market with Blossom, an all-in-one, home e-charging solution geared toward companies and their employees.
Let’s take a closer look at how Telenet leveraged its partnerships, assets, and scale to meet the emerging demand for smart and convenient EV charging solutions and the role Bundl played in helping bring it to the market.
How does a telco create an EV charging solution?
Building on its legacy of smart home solutions, Telenet launched Blossom earlier this year with the goal of helping customers make the switch to electric. The concept was designed with the goal of simplifying and streamlining EV charging for both Employers and Employees.
Bundl helped build the foundation for Blossom, spearheading the venture's partnership track and helping to design its value proposition, business model, and operational framework. Here’s a 6-step breakdown of the process:
Powered by partnerships
Many key players were involved in bringing Blossom to life. Bundl spearheaded the venture's partnership aspect, helping to ensure alignment, seamless integration, and mutual commitment across the board.
- Optimile, a startup co-owned by BNPPF, AG Insurance and Touring, provided the Charging-as-a-Service software essential for operating the charging stations.
- Arval, another BNPPF subsidiary, delivered crucial user insights and advanced proof of concept, leveraging its extensive B2B customer network.
- Unit-T helped manage home installations and onsite support.
We took on several roles during this part of the track:
- Executor: Capturing and refining ideas from meetings into actionable content.
- Liaison: Building and maintaining networks among stakeholders.
- Expert: Guiding the project’s strategy and roadmap, ensuring trust and completion.
- Facilitator: Organizing key meetings and workshops to align and focus the team.
This approach enabled us to leverage the strengths of each partner to shape Blossom's venture proposition.
An ally for EV drivers
The launch of Blossom has many strategic benefits for Telenet, enabling it to venture into the highly promising EV market, connect with environmentally conscious consumers and cement its status as an innovation leader. As explained by John Porter, CEO of Telenet:
“By placing renewed emphasis on the ongoing digitisation of our society, as well as the rapid electrification of our mobility, we can optimise both the installation and management of home charging stations through a unique digital platform. This way, we can simplify the lives of both employees and employers and create a win-win for both parties.”
While Blossom’s offering is currently geared toward employers and employees, plans are already in place to expand the service to include self-employed workers and private customers soon. Be sure to check out the Blossom website or our case page for future updates.
